Meet The Team: Ed Nimmons, Co-founder & Chief Carbon Officer

At The Carbon Removers, we’re not just building carbon removal machines, we’re helping build the carbon removal industry itself. That means scaling solutions, building trust, and creating real-world impact. Meet Ed Nimmons, Co-founder & Chief Carbon Officer at The Carbon Removers.

Who are you and where do you come from?

I’m Ed Nimmons, co-founder and Chief Carbon Officer. It’s hard to introduce myself without mentioning Richard, my brother, business partner, and co-founder. We’ve always worked closely, and entrepreneurship runs in our family. We grew up in Northern Ireland, where our father was also an entrepreneur. His path inspired ours.

What’s something people might not know about you?

Our early career paths were shaped by a tough time. Our dad’s business failed when we were in our late teens and early twenties. It was a difficult experience but also a powerful education. At the time, I was at Cambridge University, and Richard was working offshore to support us. That offshore experience is where he encountered early CO₂ tech that would inspire what we do today.

How did The Carbon Removers begin?

Richard had started a business using solid CO₂ for industrial cleaning. When he secured a key contract and some financial stability, I joined him. Together, we developed dry ice blasting tech for offshore applications, the first in the North Sea, then globally. Eventually, we formed a joint venture with Air Liquide, who later acquired it. We used the proceeds to fund our first carbon capture site in the south of Scotland. It was a huge risk, we invested our life savings. But it worked, and that’s how The Carbon Removers was born.

Tell us about building the team.

We were clear about our values from the start: practicality, immediacy, and trust. The carbon removal field was still small, and we knew who the great people were. We sought out those who stood out for their expertise and commitment. It’s a team that shares our mission, and that’s powerful.

What does a Chief Carbon Officer do?

It’s an unusual title, but it reflects our partnership. Rich is the CEO—focused outward. I’m the generalist, the connector. I bring together people and ideas, align the technical with the strategic, and help solve challenges creatively. It’s about momentum, not micromanagement.

Where do you see The Carbon Removers in five years?

We want to make carbon removal real, tangible, trusted, and scalable. In five years, we’ll have brought major partners into the space and removed serious quantities of CO₂ from the atmosphere. We’re here for the long haul.
